Adrenal Gland Support Alcohol-Free Drops - Ashwagandha, Burdock, Licorice and Stinging Nettle Herbal Blend

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of four herbs extracted together in equal parts. Adrenal Gland Support is the name of the blend; it is an herbal product, not a glandular product, and contains no animal tissue.

Two of the four herbs - licorice and ashwagandha - carry important cautions; please read the safety information below before use.

What is in the blend

  • Ashwagandha root - the root of the winter cherry, a cultivated root crop of India and one of the best-known roots of Ayurvedic tradition.
  • Burdock root - the long taproot of greater burdock, eaten as a vegetable (gobo) in Japan and a classic root of Western herbal tradition.
  • Licorice root - the sweet root of European licorice, used in herbal blends for centuries; its sweetness comes from glycyrrhizin, which is also the reason for the cautions below.
  • Stinging nettle leaf - the young leaf of the common nettle, a traditional spring green of Europe and North America.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The four dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol for personal, religious or dietary reasons, or simply prefer not to taste it. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the earthy roots and the sweetness of licorice.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Glycerites keep best in the refrigerator after opening; use within the period printed on the label. The 32 oz jar may contain unfiltered extract with natural sediment - shake well.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same four-herb blend is available as Adrenal Gland Support Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend contains four herbs, and two of them - licorice root and ashwagandha root - carry important cautions.

  • Blood pressure and potassium (licorice): licorice root naturally contains glycyrrhizin, which with regular or prolonged use can raise blood pressure, lower potassium and cause fluid retention. Do not use if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease or low potassium. Use caution if you take diuretics, digoxin, corticosteroids or blood-pressure medication.
  • Liver (ashwagandha): rare cases of liver injury have been reported with ashwagandha products. Stop and seek medical advice if you notice dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual tiredness or abdominal pain. Do not use if you have liver disease.
  • Thyroid (ashwagandha): ashwagandha can change thyroid hormone levels. Do not use if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication unless your doctor agrees.
  • Blood clotting: nettle leaf contains vitamin K and burdock may have a mild antiplatelet effect. Consult your practitioner if you take blood thinners such as warfarin.
  • Blood sugar: burdock, nettle and ashwagandha may lower blood sugar. Monitor closely if you take diabetes medication.
  • Diuretics: licorice, burdock and nettle may add to the effect of diuretic medicines.
  • Allergies: burdock is a daisy-family (Asteraceae) plant, nettle is Urticaceae and ashwagandha is a nightshade (Solanaceae) - avoid if you are sensitive to any of these families.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Use: keep to the label serving and take breaks rather than using it continuously. Stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery. Ashwagandha may cause drowsiness - use care when driving or operating machinery.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Adrenal Gland Support Alcohol-Free Drops?
Adrenal Gland Support is a four-herb liquid blend: ashwagandha root (Withania somnifera), burdock root (Arctium lappa), licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and stinging nettle leaf (Urtica dioica), extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule or a glandular product, and it contains no animal adrenal tissue. Each of the four herbs is also sold on its own; the blend combines them in equal parts. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease; please read the safety note below, because two of the herbs - ashwagandha and licorice - carry important cautions.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same four herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
What is each herb in the blend?
Ashwagandha root is the root of Withania somnifera, the winter cherry of the nightshade family, a cultivated root crop of India. Burdock root is the root of Arctium lappa, a plant of the daisy family whose root is eaten as a vegetable (gobo) in Japan. Licorice root is the sweet root of Glycyrrhiza glabra, the European licorice, which naturally contains glycyrrhizin. Stinging nettle leaf is the young leaf of Urtica dioica, a common spring green of Europe and North America. All four are sold individually on our site if you prefer a single herb.
