Frequently Asked Questions about Beet Root Extract
What is Beet Root (Beta vulgaris) extract?
Beet root comes from Beta vulgaris, the familiar deep-red garden beet - also called table beet or red beet - a root vegetable in the family Amaranthaceae. It is the same botanical species as sugar beet, Swiss chard and sea beet, which are simply different cultivated forms of Beta vulgaris; our product uses the red table-beet root, the part known for its rich crimson color. That color comes from natural pigments called betalains, of which betanin is the best known. Our extract is made from the dried root and offered in two forms - a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite. Each batch is made from carefully sourced raw material. This is a whole-root liquid extract that carries the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single-compound product, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the tincture and the alcohol-free drops?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Beta vulgaris root; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, giving it a naturally sweet taste that suits those who avoid alcohol. Both deliver the root's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
How is this different from beetroot powder, juice, or the beets I eat?
They all come from the same plant, Beta vulgaris, but the format differs. Beetroot powder is the dried, ground root sold as a scoopable powder; beetroot juice is the pressed liquid of the fresh root, sold as a drink; and the beets you eat are the whole cooked or raw vegetable. Our product is instead a concentrated liquid extract that you take by the drop, diluted in water, tea or juice - not a powder, not a juice, and not the whole vegetable. It captures the root's constituents in a small liquid serving. Our extract is a whole-root preparation that preserves the plant's own natural spectrum of constituents rather than being concentrated to a single fixed marker. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Beta vulgaris), plant part (root) and format (liquid extract) so there is no confusion with beetroot powder or juice products.
How do I use Beet Root liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents.
Is Beet Root extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Beet root has a long history of use as a food and is generally well tolerated. Two harmless notes worth knowing: beet pigments can temporarily give urine or stool a pink or red tinge, which is normal; and because beets are naturally high in oxalates, anyone prone to kidney stones may wish to be cautious. If you are pregnant or nursing, take any medication, or have a medical condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Our Beet Root (Beta Vulgaris) Root is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.

METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION

Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.

COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING

Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Refractometric analysis
