Important safety information - please read before use

Chervil is a common culinary herb and is safe as a food, but a concentrated extract has a few specific cautions.

  • Pregnancy: in medicinal amounts chervil is best avoided during pregnancy, because it contains compounds that may not be safe for a developing baby. Food amounts are considered fine, but do NOT use concentrated amounts in pregnancy; consult a practitioner before use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Identity / poison hemlock: deadly poison hemlock can look like chervil, so only correctly identified, cultivated chervil should be used - never wild-gathered material of uncertain identity.
  • Blood thinning and fluid balance: chervil contains vitamin K and has a mild diuretic (water-losing) effect, so it can interact with blood-thinning medicines (such as warfarin) and with diuretics. If you take either, consult your practitioner first.
  • Skin and sun: handling the fresh plant may occasionally cause mild skin sensitivity in sunlight.
  • Contains alcohol. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Do not give it to infants or young children. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chervil Extract
What is Chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium) leaf extract?
Chervil is a liquid extract of the dried leaf of Anthriscus cerefolium, a delicate culinary herb of the Apiaceae (carrot and parsley) family, also called French parsley, garden chervil or gourmet's parsley. It is a classic French cooking herb with a mild, slightly anise-like flavor. This tincture is extracted with organic alcohol. Chervil is generally safe as a food, but two things are worth knowing: in concentrated medicinal amounts it is best avoided in pregnancy, and there is an identity point - wild plants in the parsley family can be confused with the deadly poison hemlock, which is why correctly identified, cultivated chervil should always be used. Please read the safety notes below.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Anthriscus cerefolium leaf; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The chervil inside is identical. Please follow the safety notes for both.
Could chervil be confused with poison hemlock or other plants?
This is an important safety point. Chervil belongs to the Apiaceae family, which includes both harmless herbs and some of the most poisonous plants. Wild-gathered chervil can be confused with deadly look-alikes - especially poison hemlock (Conium maculatum) and fool's parsley (Aethusa cynapium), which are toxic - and even with wild chervil (Anthriscus sylvestris) and sweet cicely (Myrrhis odorata). This is exactly why we use cultivated, correctly identified Anthriscus cerefolium rather than wild-gathered material. If you ever forage herbs in this family yourself, be extremely careful; poison hemlock can be fatal. Our product is the true garden chervil, but the general lesson is: never use an unidentified Apiaceae plant.
How do I use Chervil liquid extract?
Shake well first. A typical amount is 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to a few times a day, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to water softens the taste. Do not exceed the suggested serving. Because of the pregnancy and blood-thinner cautions below, please read the safety information before use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Chervil (Anthriscus Cerefolium) Leaf is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Refractometric analysis
