
CAREFUL CHAMOMILE
Chamomile (Lat. Matricaria).
The most known species is Matricaria Recutita. Family Asteraceae (formerly Compositae).
Chamomile is an annual herbaceous plant with a strong aromatic odor. The stem is strongly branched. Leaves are regular, double-bifurcated into linear segments. The flowers are collected in baskets with a conical hollow floret. Marginal flowers - white, reed, female; middle flowers - yellow, tubular, bisexual. Fruit is an oblong achene with 3 ribs without a tuft.
Distribution area - Eurasia, America and South Africa.
Chamomile flowers contain essential oil (not less than 0.3%), which includes chamazulene, prohamazulene, other terpenes and sesquiterpenes, as well as flavonoids, coumarins, polysaccharides, mineral salts (12%), carotene, ascorbic acid, sitosterol, choline, organic acids.
