Acerola (Malpighia glabra, a name applied in commerce alongside Malpighia emarginata) is an evergreen shrub or small tree of the Malpighiaceae family, native to the Yucatan, the Caribbean islands, Central America, and northern South America, and planted widely in Brazil. It grows 2 to 5 meters with glossy opposite leaves, small pink to lilac fringed flowers, and bright red cherry-like fruits about 1 to 3 centimeters across with three shallow lobes and a thin skin. The juicy pulp is sharply tart, and the fruit is among the richest natural sources of vitamin C. We extract the dried berry.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
