African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) is a tall evergreen tree of the Irvingiaceae family, native to the humid forests of West and Central Africa from Nigeria to Angola, where it is called bush mango or dika. It reaches 15 to 40 meters with a buttressed trunk, dark glossy leaves, and small greenish-white flowers. The fruit looks like a small mango, 5 to 7 centimeters long, with yellow-orange fibrous pulp around a single large woody stone; inside the stone sits a flat, oily kernel that West African cooks grind into dika bread or ogbono paste to thicken soups. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
