About Artemisia argyi

Ai Ye (Artemisia argyi), the Chinese mugwort, is a perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and the Russian Far East. It spreads by rhizomes into clumps 50 to 120 centimeters tall, with deeply lobed leaves that are grey-green above and densely white-felted beneath, and small drooping heads of tiny yellowish flowers in late summer. The leaves have a strong camphor-like, sage-like aroma; in China they are hung on doorways at the Dragon Boat Festival, cooked into green rice cakes, and dried and pounded into a soft wool called moxa. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
