About Albizia julibrissin

Albizia (Albizia julibrissin), the silk tree or Persian silk tree, is a small deciduous tree of the pea family, Fabaceae, native from Iran and the Caucasus across to China, Korea, and Japan, and widely planted in the southern United States, where it has naturalized. It forms a broad, flat-topped canopy 5 to 12 meters tall, with smooth grey-brown bark and feathery bipinnate leaves whose leaflets fold shut at night. In summer the branches are covered in fluffy pink pompoms made of long silky stamens, sweetly fragrant and visited by hummingbirds and bees, followed by flat, papery brown pods. We extract the dried bark and flower separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
