Aloe Vera (Aloe vera) is a stemless or short-stemmed succulent of the Asphodelaceae family, thought to be native to the Arabian Peninsula and now grown and naturalized in warm, dry regions worldwide, from the Mediterranean and Mexico to Texas and India. It forms a dense rosette of thick, fleshy, grey-green leaves 30 to 60 centimeters long, often pale-spotted when young, with small white teeth along the edges. In summer a leafless stalk carries a spike of drooping yellow tubular flowers. Cut leaves reveal a clear, slippery, mild-tasting gel in the center and a thin layer of bitter yellow latex under the rind. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
