About Panax quinquefolius

American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is a slow-growing perennial of the ivy family, Araliaceae, native to the cool, shaded hardwood forests of eastern North America from southern Quebec and Ontario south to Georgia and west to Oklahoma. It grows 20 to 50 centimeters tall with a whorl of three to five palmately compound leaves, each with five toothed leaflets, a small umbel of greenish-white flowers in early summer, and a cluster of bright red berries in autumn. The pale, fleshy, often forked taproot develops ring-like wrinkles with age; wild roots are a protected export crop, and most commercial supply is now farmed in Wisconsin and Ontario. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
