About Angelica archangelica

Angelica (Angelica archangelica) is a tall biennial or short-lived perennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, native to northern and eastern Europe from Iceland and Scandinavia to Russia, and grown as a garden plant and in Lapland as a vegetable. In its second year it sends up a hollow, ridged, purplish stem 1 to 2.5 meters tall carrying large, bright green, twice-divided leaves with inflated sheathing bases and huge globe-shaped umbels of tiny greenish-white flowers that hum with insects. Every part smells sweetly aromatic and musky; the candied green stems decorate cakes, and the root flavors gin, vermouth, and Benedictine. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
