About Aegle marmelos

Bael (Aegle marmelos), the Bengal quince or wood apple, is a spiny deciduous tree of the citrus family, Rutaceae, native to India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar and planted through Southeast Asia, often beside Hindu temples, where its trifoliate leaves are offered to Shiva. It grows 8 to 15 meters with straight axillary spines, greenish-white sweetly scented flowers, and round to pear-shaped fruits 5 to 15 centimeters across with a hard, woody, grey-green to yellow rind. Inside, the pale orange pulp is sweet, aromatic, and sticky with mucilage, and it is made into sherbet and jam in India. We extract the dried fruit.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
