About Dictamnus albus

Bai Xian Pi (Dictamnus albus, the East Asian plants often separated as Dictamnus dasycarpus), the gas plant or burning bush, is a woody-based perennial of the citrus family, Rutaceae, native from southern Europe across to northern China, Korea, and Siberia. It grows 60 to 100 centimeters with pinnate, ash-like leaves dotted with oil glands and tall spikes of showy white or pink flowers veined in purple in early summer. The whole plant smells strongly of lemon peel, and on hot, still evenings its volatile oil can be lit with a match in a brief flash. The thick root bark dries into white, rolled, quill-like pieces. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
