About Citrus bergamia

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia, classified by Kew as a form of Citrus x limon) is a small evergreen tree of the citrus family, Rutaceae, of hybrid origin and grown almost entirely on a narrow coastal strip of Calabria in southern Italy. It reaches 3 to 5 meters with glossy, pointed leaves, fragrant white flowers, and round to pear-shaped fruits the size of an orange that ripen from green to pale yellow in winter. The pulp is too sour and bitter to eat, but the thin, oil-rich peel has a bright, floral scent that flavors Earl Grey tea and anchors many classic colognes. We extract the dried fruit peel.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
