About Viburnum prunifolium

Black Haw (Viburnum prunifolium) is a deciduous shrub or small tree of the Viburnaceae family, formerly placed in Adoxaceae, native to woodland edges, thickets, and streambanks of the eastern and central United States from Connecticut to Florida and west to Kansas and Texas. It grows 3 to 5 meters with stiff, spreading branches, grey-brown bark that breaks into small plates, and glossy, finely toothed oval leaves that resemble those of a plum, hence the Latin epithet. Flat-topped clusters of small creamy-white flowers open in spring, followed by oval blue-black fruits with a waxy bloom that are sweet and edible after frost. We extract the dried bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
