Black Radish (Raphanus sativus var. niger), the Spanish or winter radish, is an annual or biennial of the mustard family, Brassicaceae, a cultivated form of the common radish whose wild ancestors grew around the Mediterranean and in Asia; it has been a winter vegetable of eastern Europe and Germany since the Middle Ages. It forms a rosette of rough, deeply lobed leaves above a round or tapering root 8 to 15 centimeters across with a dull, blackish, corky skin and crisp, pure white flesh far more pungent than a red salad radish. Left to grow, it bolts to a meter with pale lilac flowers. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
