About Fucus vesiculosus

Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) is not a land plant but a brown seaweed of the Fucaceae family, common on rocky shores on both sides of the North Atlantic, from the White Sea and Iceland to Portugal and from Labrador to North Carolina, as well as the Baltic. It grows 30 to 90 centimeters, anchored by a disc-shaped holdfast, with flat, leathery, olive-brown fronds that fork repeatedly and have a prominent midrib. The paired, pea-sized air bladders along the fronds give the species its name and keep it floating upright at high tide. Dried, it smells strongly of the sea and tastes salty. We extract the dried entire plant.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
