About Nymphaea caerulea

Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea, now classified as Nymphaea nouchali var. caerulea) is not a true lotus but a water lily of the Nymphaeaceae family, native to the Nile and to lakes and slow rivers across East and northeastern Africa, and planted in ornamental ponds worldwide. From a rhizome rooted in the mud it sends up round, floating, notched leaves 25 to 40 centimeters across and star-shaped flowers 10 to 15 centimeters wide held just above the water, with pale blue, pointed petals around a golden center. The flowers open in the morning, close by early afternoon, and have a sweet, delicate fragrance. We extract the dried flower.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
