About Mentha haplocalyx

Bo He (Mentha haplocalyx, classified by Kew as part of Mentha canadensis), the Chinese field mint, is a creeping perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to China, Korea, Japan, and eastern Siberia and grown as a crop in Jiangsu, Anhui, and Jiangxi. It spreads by runners into patches 30 to 60 centimeters tall, with square, often purplish stems, opposite oval toothed leaves, and dense whorls of tiny lilac to white flowers set in the leaf axils rather than in a terminal spike. The crushed leaves release a sharp, cooling menthol scent; the Chinese crop is a major source of natural menthol. We extract the dried herb.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
