Broccoli (Brassica oleracea, Italica group) is a cultivated form of the wild cabbage, a biennial of the mustard family, Brassicaceae, native to the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe and bred into its modern shape in Italy, from where it reached the United States with Italian immigrants. It grows 60 to 90 centimeters with a thick stem, large, blue-green, wavy-edged leaves with a waxy bloom, and a dense, branched head of tightly packed green flower buds, which is the vegetable. Left uncut, the head opens into small yellow four-petaled flowers, followed by slender pods of round dark seeds. We extract the dried leaf and seed separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
