Camucamu (Myrciaria dubia) is a bushy shrub or small tree of the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, native to the flooded riverbanks and oxbow lakes of the Amazon basin in Peru, Brazil, and Colombia, where it stands in water for several months of each year. It grows 3 to 5 meters with slender branches, glossy, pointed opposite leaves, and small white, fragrant flowers. The fruit is a round berry 2 to 4 centimeters across, thin-skinned and purplish-red when ripe, with pale, extremely sour pulp around one or two seeds; it is harvested by canoe and ranks among the richest natural sources of vitamin C. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
