About Ceratonia siliqua

Carob (Ceratonia siliqua), the locust bean or St. John's bread, is an evergreen tree of the pea family, Fabaceae, native to the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East and grown throughout the Mediterranean basin from Spain and Morocco to Cyprus. It reaches 10 to 15 meters with a broad, dense crown of glossy, leathery, pinnate leaves and small reddish flowers that sprout from the older wood in autumn. The pods are flat, leathery, dark brown, 10 to 30 centimeters long, and filled with sweet, sticky pulp around hard, glossy seeds so uniform in weight that they became the jeweler's carat. We extract the dried seed and pods.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
