Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium, a hybrid of garden origin), the florist's chrysanthemum or Ju Hua, is a perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, bred in China more than two thousand years ago from wild species of East Asia and grown for tea in Zhejiang, Anhui, and Henan. It grows 30 to 90 centimeters with woody-based stems and deeply lobed, grey-green, aromatic leaves, and in autumn carries flower heads 2 to 6 centimeters across in white or yellow, the small, dense tea cultivars very different from shaggy exhibition blooms. The dried heads are pale, papery, and faintly honey-scented, with a mild, sweet taste. We extract the dried flower.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
