Chui Pen Cao (Sedum sarmentosum), the stringy stonecrop or graveyard moss, is a creeping succulent perennial of the stonecrop family, Crassulaceae, native to China, Korea, and Japan, where it carpets rocks, old walls, and roof tiles, and widely planted and escaped as a groundcover in the United States. Its thin, trailing, reddish stems root wherever they touch and carry whorls of three narrow, fleshy, pale green leaves about 2 centimeters long. In early summer the mat is covered with flat clusters of small, bright yellow, five-pointed star flowers. The fresh plant is crisp, juicy, and faintly sour to the taste. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
