About Geranium maculatum

Cranesbill (Geranium maculatum), the wild or spotted geranium, is a woodland perennial of the geranium family, Geraniaceae, native to rich deciduous woods and meadow edges of eastern North America from Manitoba and Maine south to Georgia and Arkansas. It grows 30 to 60 centimeters with deeply cut, five-lobed, hairy leaves that often develop pale blotches as they age, and in spring carries loose clusters of five-petaled, rose-pink to lilac flowers. The fruit is a long, beaked capsule like a crane's bill that splits and curls to fling the seeds. The thick, knotted rhizome is dark brown, with a strongly astringent, puckering taste. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
