About Oplopanax horridus

Devil's Club (Oplopanax horridus) is a sprawling deciduous shrub of the ivy family, Araliaceae, native to moist, shaded forests and streamsides of the Pacific Northwest from southern Alaska through British Columbia to Oregon and Montana. Its thick, crooked stems rise 1 to 3 meters and are densely armed with brittle yellow spines that break off in the skin, as are the undersides of the huge, maple-like leaves up to 40 centimeters across. In early summer it carries a pyramid of small greenish-white flowers that ripen into a showy cluster of bright red berries. The root bark is pale, aromatic, and bitter. We extract the dried root bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
