About Lycium barbarum

Di Gu Pi (Lycium barbarum), the root bark of the goji or wolfberry shrub, comes from a deciduous shrub of the nightshade family, Solanaceae, native to northern China and grown on a large scale in Ningxia, as well as naturalized in hedgerows across Europe. It grows 1 to 3 meters with arching, often thorny grey branches, narrow, grey-green leaves, and small purple funnel-shaped flowers, followed by glossy, oblong, orange-red berries 1 to 2 centimeters long that are sweet with a tomato-like note. The root bark is stripped in rolled, quill-like pieces, grey-yellow outside, pale within, faintly sweet then bitter. We extract the dried root bark and berry separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
