Du Zhong (Eucommia ulmoides), the hardy rubber tree, is a deciduous tree of the Eucommiaceae family, of which it is the only living member, native to the mountains of central China from Shaanxi and Henan to Sichuan and Hubei, where it is now known mainly from cultivation. It grows 15 to 20 meters with grey, furrowed bark and glossy, elm-like, toothed oval leaves, and bears inconspicuous flowers followed by flat, winged fruits. Its signature is hidden: snap a strip of bark slowly and fine, silvery, elastic threads of natural rubber stretch across the break, which is why the bark holds together when cracked. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
