Flixweed (Descurainia sophia), also called herb sophia or ting li zi in China, is an annual or winter annual of the mustard family, Brassicaceae, native to Europe and Asia and a widespread weed of North American fields. It grows 30-100 cm tall with grey-green, finely divided, feathery leaves and slender spikes of tiny pale yellow flowers followed by thin curved pods. The small reddish-brown seeds have a mustard-like, pungent taste. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
