About Polygonum multiflorum

Fo-Ti (Reynoutria multiflora, formerly Polygonum multiflorum), known in China as he shou wu, is a twining perennial vine of the knotweed family, Polygonaceae, native to central and southern China. It climbs to 4 m with heart-shaped leaves and sprays of tiny white flowers in autumn. The thick, reddish-brown tubers are sold raw, or steamed with black bean juice to a dark, glossy "prepared" form. We extract the dried root, the prepared root and the dried vine separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
