Fringe (Chionanthus virginicus), the American fringe tree or old man's beard, is a small deciduous tree of the olive family, Oleaceae, native to the southeastern United States from New Jersey to Texas. It grows 4-10 m with opposite oval leaves and, in late spring, airy clusters of fragrant white flowers with four narrow, strap-like petals that hang like fringe. Female trees carry dark blue, olive-like fruits. The root bark is bitter and greyish-brown. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
