Fu Ling (Wolfiporia cocos, long known as Poria cocos) is a wood-rotting fungus of the Fomitopsidaceae family, native to pine forests of China, Japan, Korea and eastern North America. It forms no visible mushroom; instead it grows a large underground sclerotium, a dense, potato-like mass up to 30 cm across with a dark wrinkled rind and a white or pale pink, chalky interior with almost no taste. A sclerotium grown around a pine root is called fu shen. We extract the dried sclerotium and the sclerotium with host wood separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
