Glossy Privet (Ligustrum lucidum), the Chinese privet or nu zhen zi, is an evergreen tree of the olive family, Oleaceae, native to southern China and widely planted as a street and hedge tree. It grows 10-20 m with large, glossy, dark green leaves and broad panicles of fragrant, creamy-white flowers in summer. The small oval fruits ripen to blue-black in winter and dry to wrinkled, bean-shaped berries with a bitter, slightly sweet taste. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
