Heather (Calluna vulgaris), the ling or Scotch heather, is a low evergreen shrub of the heath family, Ericaceae, native to the moors, bogs and heathlands of Europe and Asia Minor and naturalized in parts of North America. It forms dense mats 20-50 cm high of wiry stems clothed in tiny, scale-like leaves, and from late summer carries spikes of small bell-shaped purple-pink flowers that color whole hillsides. Heather honey and heather ale come from its blooms. We extract the dried leaf and flower.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
