About Hoodia gordonii

Hoodia (Hoodia gordonii) is a leafless, spiny succulent of the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, native to the Kalahari and Namib deserts of South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It grows in clumps of upright, ribbed, grey-green stems up to 1 m tall that look like a cactus but are not one, and bears large, flat, flesh-colored flowers that smell of rotten meat to attract flies. The stems have a bitter taste. Wild harvest is regulated under CITES Appendix II. We extract the dried plant.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
