About Cochlearia armoracia

Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana, formerly Cochlearia armoracia) is a robust perennial of the mustard family, Brassicaceae, native to southeastern Europe and western Asia and grown in temperate gardens worldwide. It forms large, coarse, dock-like leaves up to 1 m long and sprays of small white flowers, but rarely sets viable seed. The thick, white taproot is almost odorless until cut or grated, when it releases a sharp, hot, sinus-piercing pungency from mustard oils. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
