Hou Tou Gu (Hericium erinaceus), the lion's mane mushroom, is a wood-inhabiting fungus of the Hericiaceae family, native to hardwood forests of North America, Europe and Asia. Instead of a cap and gills it forms a single white, rounded fruiting body 10-25 cm across covered in long, cascading spines, which gives it names like monkey head, bearded tooth and pom pom. The flesh is firm and white with a mild, seafood-like taste when cooked, and it is grown commercially on sawdust. We extract the dried whole fruiting body.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
