About Cetraria islandica

Iceland Moss (Cetraria islandica) is not a moss but a lichen, a partnership of a fungus of the Parmeliaceae family with a green alga, native to the mountains and tundra of Iceland, Scandinavia, northern Asia and northern North America. It forms loose, brittle, upright tufts 3-10 cm tall of curled, strap-like lobes, brown to olive-green above and paler beneath, with tiny spiny teeth along the edges. Dried, it is grey-brown, tasteless at first and then bitter, and was ground into flour in Iceland. We extract the dried whole plant.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
