Ji Xue Teng (Spatholobus suberectus), the dragon's blood vine or "chicken blood vine", is a massive woody climber of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to the forests of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Fujian in southern China. Its stems reach the canopy with large trifoliate leaves and panicles of small white pea flowers followed by flat, hairy pods. When the stem is cut, the wood oozes a dark red sap that dries to resinous rings, which explains the Chinese name. We extract the dried stem.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
