Jing Jie (Nepeta tenuifolia, long known as Schizonepeta tenuifolia), the Japanese catnip, is an aromatic annual of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to China, Korea and Japan and grown as a crop in Henan, Hebei and Jiangsu. It grows 60-100 cm tall with square stems, finely divided, feathery leaves and dense terminal spikes of small pale purple flowers. The whole plant smells strongly of mint and camphor with a pungent, slightly cooling taste. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
