Job's Tears (Coix lacryma-jobi), also called coix seed or yi yi ren, is a tall annual grass of the grass family, Poaceae, native to tropical Asia and grown as a cereal from India to China, Japan and the Philippines. It grows 1-2 m tall with broad, corn-like leaves, and its female flowers are enclosed in hard, tear-shaped, pearly grey or white husks that are strung as beads. The hulled grain is round, white and chewy with a mild, nutty taste, and is cooked like barley. We extract the dried grains and seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
