About Juniperus communis

Juniper (Juniperus communis), the common juniper, is an evergreen conifer of the cypress family, Cupressaceae, with the widest range of any woody plant, across the northern hemisphere from Alaska and Canada to Europe, Siberia and Japan. It grows as a prostrate shrub or a narrow tree up to 10 m with needle-like, sharp-pointed blue-green leaves in whorls of three. Female plants bear fleshy, berry-like cones that ripen from green to blue-black over two to three years, with a resinous, pine-and-citrus taste that flavors gin. We extract the dried berry.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
