Kadsura Vine (Piper kadsura, listed in pharmacopoeias as Caulis Piperis Futokadsurae) is a woody climbing pepper of the pepper family, Piperaceae, native to the warm coastal forests of southern China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. It clings to rocks and tree trunks by adventitious roots, with heart-shaped, leathery leaves and slender spikes of minute flowers followed by small red berries. The cut stems are jointed, grey-brown, hollow at the center and faintly aromatic with a bitter, pungent taste. We extract the dried stem.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
