About Kaempferia galanga

Kencur (Kaempferia galanga), the aromatic ginger or sand ginger, is a low, stemless perennial of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, native to India and grown across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and southern China. Two to four broad, rounded leaves lie almost flat on the ground, and small white flowers with a purple blotch open between them. The small, branched rhizome is pale brown outside and white inside, with a strong camphor-like, peppery scent and taste basic to Javanese cooking and the drink beras kencur. We extract the dried rhizome.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
