Khella (Visnaga daucoides, long known as Ammi visnaga), the toothpick weed or bishop's weed, is an annual or biennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, native to the Mediterranean, Egypt and the Middle East and naturalized in the Americas. It grows 50-100 cm tall with finely divided, feathery leaves and large, dense umbels of small white flowers whose stiff rays harden into natural toothpicks when the seed ripens. The small grey-brown fruits have a bitter, aromatic taste. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
