Knotgrass (Polygonum aviculare), the common knotgrass or bian xu in China, is a low, wiry annual of the knotweed family, Polygonaceae, native to Europe and Asia and now a weed of trampled ground, paths and field edges worldwide. Its tough, branching stems spread flat or slightly upright to 50 cm, with small, narrow, blue-green leaves, papery sheaths at the swollen joints, and tiny pink-edged white or green flowers in the leaf axils. The herb has a mild, slightly astringent taste. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
