About Hepatica americana

Liverwort (Hepatica americana), the round-lobed hepatica, is a small evergreen perennial of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, native to the deciduous woods of eastern North America. Its three-lobed leaves with rounded lobes lie close to the ground, turning leathery and purple-brown over winter, and in early spring hairy stalks 10-15 cm tall carry solitary flowers of 6-12 lavender, pink or white petal-like sepals before the new leaves emerge. The old common name came from the lobed shape of the leaf. We extract the dried herb.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
