Lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis), the common lungwort or soldiers and sailors, is a low perennial of the borage family, Boraginaceae, native to woods and hedgerows of central and eastern Europe and grown in shade gardens. It forms a clump 20-30 cm tall of rough, hairy, heart-shaped leaves spotted with white, and in early spring carries clusters of funnel-shaped flowers that open pink and turn blue, so both colors show together. The spotted leaves inspired the old doctrine-of-signatures name. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
