Marjoram (Origanum majorana), the sweet or knotted marjoram, is a tender perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to Cyprus, Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean and grown as an annual in kitchen gardens worldwide. It forms a soft, grey-green bush 30-60 cm tall with small, oval, velvety leaves and tight, knot-like clusters of grey-green bracts from which tiny white or pink flowers peep. The leaves have a sweet, warm, floral scent, milder and less peppery than oregano, and are a classic of Mediterranean cooking. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
