About Mucuna pruriens

Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens), the velvet bean or cowhage, is a vigorous annual climbing legume of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to tropical Africa and Asia and grown as a green manure and fodder crop across the tropics. It climbs 3-15 m with large trifoliate leaves and hanging clusters of dark purple or white pea flowers. The curved, S-shaped pods are covered in loose orange hairs that come off at a touch, the reason for the name "itchy bean", and hold shiny, mottled black, brown or white seeds. We extract the dried seed.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
